This art print continues our series imagining the famed 19th-century printers Baker & Godwin as a modern, pro-democracy art house. The design is a rich tapestry of history, layering a genuine (though mysterious) 1860s engraving of parading Wide Awakes with a powerful modern declaration.

The historic engraving, tinted a deep blue, serves as the foundation. Overlaid in a tapestry of brilliant gold are symbols taken from an authentic Wide Awakes banner from Clarence, NY—the axe, the mallet, the keystone. The central message, rendered in classic 19th-century fonts, connects the political insults of the past and present: "THEY USED TO CALL US WOKE, NOW THEY CAN CALL US WIDE AWAKES." It's a defiant reclamation, arguing that being "woke" to injustice is the same spirit that drove the abolitionist Wide Awakes. Framed by modern resistance symbols and signed with the bilingual Baker & Godwin press line, it's a statement that the work of a more perfect Union continues.
