The Boston Anti-Man-Hunting League would assemble a team of 18 individuals, each denoted by a letter, number, or combination. The job of the numbered individuals would be to keep anyone in the crowd from interfering. The Speaker (S) would attempt to convince the Slave Hunter (SH) to give up trying to kidnap the former slave they were after. If they refused, the Speaker would give the signal, whereupon one individual (C) would restrain the Slave Hunter's head, two (A1 and A2) would restrain his arms, and two more (F1 and F2) would restrain his feet. The plan was to lock them in a safehouse and then send them on a train out of Boston as soon as possible.
